Merced County Officers Shot in Line of Duty Are Recovering Investigation Continues
The Nelson County Sheriff's deputy shot Friday has been identified as Deputy Bryan Adams. He's been with the department for 13 years. Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa said Adams is continuing to recover at home but is "sore." Authorities have also charged 49-year-old Christopher Curtis in the shooting. Curtis is charged with attempted murder police officer, wanton endangerment first-degree police officer, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief first-degree as listed in arrest records He's currently in the Nelson County Jail. An officer was shot in Nelson County on Friday, and we're told the suspect is in custody.Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa told WLKY that an officer was shot in the arm in Botland, Kentucky, which is just outside of Bardstown.Nelson County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Ivy Avenue. Officials later confirmed the officer was shot between Greer Lane and Ivy Avenue.Those who live near the home said the shooting unfolded as a school bus carrying at least a dozen children pulled up just feet away. Khloe Roberts, 13, was on the bus with her little sisters when she heard the shots. "We were sitting there on the bus all of a sudden we hear gunshots going off," Roberts said. "I was thinking that I was going to die and my sisters were going to die."Just before 7 p.m., Pineiroa said the suspect was in custody. He also said that the suspect had been known to deputies and they responded to them before."We had been there at the residence previously and dealt with the guy," Pinieroa said. "I have dealt with him a deputy, supervisor and now my guys. He's not a stranger to our office."Two deputies fired their weapons, according to officials, and have been placed on paid administrative leave. We're told the officer was rushed to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Pineiroa says the deputy who was shot is 21 months away from retirement."I was at a car wash and if anybody was complaining about a red Tahoe driving like a maniac, I was headed home to get my cruiser and my gun," Pineiroa said. "I was headed to the scene. Seeing him when I opened that ambulance door. Knowing he was okay. That's the most important to me. That none of my guys go under my watch."Eric Johnson, leader of the Kentucky chapter of Supporting Heroes, an organization that supports the families of law enforcement members killed in the line of duty, tells us the suspect involved is barricaded.Kentucky State Police are now handling the investigation.
